To see them, you need to head inland from the sea and into the city. The area is called Pano Paphos (“pano” translates from Greek as “upper”).

It has its own charm.

According to locals, before the Kings Avenue Mall was built, the Upper City had more visitors, as many popular brand shops were located here.

Now these picturesque alleys are almost always quiet.

Cozy.

Charming.

Comfortable.

Picturesque.
Fresh.

Deserted.

Safe.
The city’s new mayor has started renovations, paving streets, and repairing or demolishing buildings. I’m used to it; having lived in Moscow for many years, I’m familiar with urban transformations like these.)

I love walking here.

Drinking coffee.

Enjoying it, showing it to guests.
Admiring graffiti.

The Upper City of Paphos is almost always quiet, with few people or none at all.

At any time of year, at any time of day.
Although in winter, it’s a good idea to bring an umbrella.

Peace and quiet.

This is all of Cyprus, perhaps.

Here is what the historical center of Cyprus’s capital looks like – Old Town in Nicosia.
