Mr. Brian Tracy loves to tell this story. My wife and I attended his events in Moscow twice, and both times he mentioned the topic of focus.

He also talked about it many times in his videos, and certainly wrote at least once about focus in his numerous books.
Focus
Once at a charity (I think) dinner attended by wealthy people, Bill Gates’ father (father of one of the richest people in the world) and Warren Buffett (also consistently on the list of the richest people on the planet) were dining at the same table.
And one of the journalists came up and asked something like, “Gentlemen, you are among the richest people in the world, so you must surely know the key to success. What should people focus on? What’s the secret?”
And both of them, without discussing it beforehand, answered with one word:
— Focus!

And they didn’t mean some clever illusionist trick, but actual concentration — real FOCUS on something.
Because where your attention goes, that’s where you dig, that’s generally the direction you move. Personally, I compare it to the steering wheel of a car — wherever you turn it, that’s where you go.
So when a person spends the whole day on video hosting platforms watching “brutal crashes” (you know the type?) or “how people are scammed, beware of new fraud schemes” (I recently spoke to someone like this), and other garbage — then… they shouldn’t be surprised by the growing number of problems in their life, and definitely shouldn’t blame their neighbors, spouses, or the government… Their focus has drawn all this crap into their life.
That’s why I personally try — and I advise others when I get the chance — to practice mental hygiene: don’t shove all sorts of garbage and sh*t into your brain. Don’t seek out or consume online filth, trash, gore, gossip, negativity, intimate details of celebrities’ or politicians’ personal lives, or search for freebie schemes and such.
Trust an experienced internet user — or check for yourself on wordstat.yandex.ru — how many people search for that kind of content. Try to go without it.
Because with that you:
- won’t feed your family
- won’t take your girl to a restaurant
- won’t fill up your car with gas
- won’t enjoy a nice vacation
- won’t build good relationships
…and so on.
In short — you won’t do a damn thing with that crap! MOREOVER — IT’S HIGHLY LIKELY IT WILL HARM YOU. Focusing on this kind of stuff brings more of the same into your life. Let go of that crap, friend, it drags you down! If you want happiness — focus on it.
That’s the story about the power of focus.
