During our retreat with Geshe Michael Roach in Bali, we went on a hiking tour to the Ijen volcano and sulfur lake, located on the island of Java.

These landmarks are located on the neighboring island of Java. Here it is: https://goo.gl/maps/672n5UV93xpjSga36
And you know what occasionally reminds me of this trip? THE SMELL! THE SMELL OF SULFUR THAT GOT DEEPLY EMBEDDED INTO OUR HIKING CLOTHES) That’s the power of nature!))
Most of the hike is shown in this video.
And let me repeat once more, based on my personal experience – when going to the Ijen volcano and the acid lake, take clothes you won’t mind throwing away. Because the sulfur smell will soak into them and stay for a long time, even after dozens of washes.
UPDATE 2022. Friends, it’s been 3 (THREE!!) years since we visited the Ijen volcano in Java, and the pants I wore during the hike STILL SMELL LIKE SULFUR! They’re regularly washed and dried in the fresh Cypriot air, but the smell still hasn’t completely gone away. So wear something not too valuable.

We hiked to the summit of the Ijen volcano wearing masks like these, and of course, it felt unusual to wear them.
And the following year, the whole world was wearing masks – it became something normal.
Who could’ve known that it would turn out like that, right?…
