a pleasant Cypriot village

Few tourists, of course, due to everything going on (it’s the year 2020). On the other hand – less fuss and noise).
It’s nice to take a walk along the local stream. They say you can walk to the base of the Millomeris waterfall, but we didn’t manage – had to drive. Even local (meaning Cypriot) tourists had to stop and ask locals for directions from Platres to the Millomeris waterfall. In the end, we found the waterfall and remembered that we had been there a couple of years ago)) I recommend visiting, it’s a beautiful place. One could even write a separate article or make a video on how to get to Millomeris Waterfall.

Platres is a mountain village in Cyprus, at an altitude of 1200m above sea level. It is located on the southern slopes of the Troodos Mountains and is the largest resort in this mountain system. It is situated 25 km northwest of Limassol and 45 km southwest of Nicosia.

Platres is one of the oldest, possibly the oldest, village in Cyprus — it was known as early as the end of the 12th century. I couldn’t find up-to-date population data, but it’s known that in the 2000s around 300 people lived here, and during tourist seasons the number could rise to 10,000.

It is known that in the past, Platres was a fairly popular destination, visited by various famous people of that time. What the situation with celebrities is like now — I don’t know and honestly don’t care.

I’ve been here several times – it’s a beautiful place with clean mountain air, and in summer it’s especially nice because it’s cooler here, there are leafy green forests and streams – things you really miss in Cypriot coastal cities. There are also many cycling and hiking trails, and the Millomeris waterfall. As far as I understand, there are two waterfalls in this area – Millomeris and Caledonia – but we only found one, and even then we had to ask locals for directions, as neither Google Maps nor 2GIS could handle the task.

As far as I know, there are no fancy elite hotels here, but if you take the time to search, you can find something nice. We didn’t bother much — you can just stay overnight at Semiramis Hotel.
